    Dedication

Ellis Hollow is a community at the southeastern boundary of Ithaca, New York. Although small and in a rural setting, Ellis Hollow is rich in history and beautiful in setting. Over the years the people of Ellis Hollow have come together in the spirit of friendship to form a neighborhood committee which has built not only a Community Center - but a way of life for its residents.

As we move from the 20th to the 21st Century, The Ellis Hollow Community Center and its Board will, within the next few years, celebrate a half Century of community involvement and support. This Website is dedicated to - not only the Founders of The Ellis Hollow Community Association - but also to those individuals both living and now gone, named and unnamed, who have kept the traditions and the memories alive for all the residents who live here...

 Thanks and acknowledgements:

Most of the text of this website has come from the book Ellis Hollow (1977) by Jeanette Knapp and Jill Welch. We thank them for all the time and patience taken to put together this historic booklet as well as making themselves available for consultation when necessary during the time this website was created.

Kudos to Lois McManus who made all of the detailed drawings of the Century Houses, and Nariman Mistry who drew the wonderful rendition of the barn "Fair View" which graced the cover of the book, as well as the historic map of Ellis Hollow. We thank them for allowing us to use the drawings which appeared in the original book Ellis Hollow published in 1977.

Excerpts and some paragraphs were taken from the 1985 paper, "The History of Ellis Hollow, " by Jacob Myers. Jacob is the grandson of Henry & Elsie Myers (later Stainton) who bought the former Ellis House in 1939, and raised their family there. The Myers paper also came with many interesting photocopies, some of which are shown here.

We would also like to give special thanks to Ellis Hollow resident, Joe Lalley and ClarityConnect for providing space to start this website, as well as Anne Kendall-Casella who spent time retyping most of the memorabilia from the book Ellis Hollow for the first webpage. The early work done on this site inspired the new pages you find and has made the job of the new website volunteers much easier.

Website Committee - 2000.
